Narcissistic Personality Disorder

Narcissistic Personality Disorders is a mental condition in which some people have an inflated sense of their own self importance, as well as a deep need for excessive attention and admiration, troubled relationships and lack of empathy for others. Deep inside the narcissist deals with extreme confidence issues, low self esteem and is vulnerable to criticism. 

The Personality disorder causes major issues in many parts of the narcissist life , such as relationships, work, school and even financial affairs. People who suffer from NPD may be unhappy and disappointed when they are not given special favors or the admiration they believe they deserve.  Treatment for the personality disorder is centered around therapy (psychotherapy). 

Symptoms 

Have an exaggerated sense of self importance. 

Have a sense of entitlement and requires constant excessive admiration

Expect to be recognized as superior even without achievements that warrant it

Exaggerate achievements and talents

Be envious of others and believe others envy them

Narcissist have trouble handling anything they perceive as criticism 

Become Impatient or angry when they don't receive special treatment

Have significant interpersonal problems and easily feel slighted 

Have difficulty regulating emotions and behavior

It is not known what causes NPD 

However NPD may be linked to 

Environment- Mismatch in parent child relationships with excessive adoration attuned to the Childs experience.

Genetics- Inherited characteristics 

Neurobiology- The connection between the brain and behavior and thinking

Risk Factors

NPD Affects more males than females, and it often begins in the teens or early adulthood.

Keep in mind that, although some some children may show traits of narcissism, it may simply be typical of their age and doesn't mean they'll go on to develop narcissistic personality disorder. The cause of NPD isn't known, some researchers think that in biologically vulnerable children, parenting styles that are overprotective or neglectful may have an impact. 

PREVENTION

There is no way to prevent their condition.

Get treatment as soon as possible

Participate in family therapy to learn unhealthy ways to communicate or to cope with conflicts or emotional distress 

Attend parenting classes and seek guidance from therapist or social workers if needed.

Sex is enhancing an emotional bond between them whether they want it or not. 

A limbic bonding is the reason casual sex doesn't really work for most people. Usually women catch feelings 

One person is bond to form attachment.

One person is usually the woman who is hurt most is that the female limbic system is larger than the male's. 

Unhealthy soul ties are often ramifications of having partners that you create a life long bond with through sexual encounters, but whom you only have a short relationship with. The bond remains long after the relationship is over, leaving other sexual partners longing for wholeness.

Domestic Violence also know as intimate partner violence (ipv) is a pattern of behaviors used by one partner to maintain power and control over another person in an intimate relationship.

Domestic Violence includes behaviors that physically harm, arouse fear, prevent a partner from being or doing what they wish to force them to behave in ways they do not want. It includes the use of physical and sexual violence, thats and intimidation, emotional abuse and economic deprivation. Many of these different forms of domestic violence/ abuse can be occurring at any one time within the same intimate relationship.

SIGNS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Using Coercion- Making her afraid by using looks, actions, gestures, smashing things, destroying property, abusing pets, displaying weapons

Using Isolation- Controlling what she does, who she sees and talks to, what she reads, where she goes, limiting her outside involvement  , Using jealousy to justify actions

Minimizing, Denying, and Blaming- Making light of the abuse and not taking her concerns about it seriously. Saying the abuse didn't happen. Shifting responsibility 

Using Children- Making her feel guilty about the children. Using the children to relay messages. Using visitation to harass her, threatening to take the children away

Using Male Privilege- Treating her like a servant. Making all the big decisions. Acting like the "Master of the castle." Being the one to define men and women roles.

Using economic Abuse- Preventing her from getting or keeping a job. Making her ask for money. Giving her allowance, taking her money, not letting her know about or access to family income. 

TYPES OF ABUSE 

Spiritual Abuse - Preventing a woman from practicing her religion

Misusing spiritual or religious beliefs and practices 

Forcing a woman to act against her spirituality or religious  obligations

Verbal Abuse- A key feature of emotionally abusive relationships.

The perpetrator makes statements that negatively label a person, for example "you are a terrible mother" 

Signs of Verbal abuse- Name calling, continuous criticism, swearing and humiliation in public or private, attacks on a woman's intelligence, body or parenting, yelling. 

Sexual Abuse- Any forced or unwanted sexual activity. The perpetrator of sexual abuse may use physical force, make threats or take advantage of a person unable to give consent.

Sexual abuse mainly happens between two people who know each other and can occur in context of domestic violence.

Sexual Abuse has impacts on woman's physical and emotional health. It can lead to long term mental health issues, including anxiety and post traumatic stress disorder.

Mental Illness - Refers to a wide range of mental health conditions, disorders that affect your mood, thinking, and behavior. Examples of mental illness include depression, anxiety, schizophrenia,  eating disorders, and addictive behaviors. Many people have mental health concerns from time to time.
